As a preamble, I am neither a programmer nor a HiFi or network professional. Please do not hesitate to correct me, I hope to be able to edit this message as many times as needed!
I myself have opted for DLNA, which allows me to play music from my computer a MacBook Pro , to send it across the room, through Ethernet, to a network player Yamaha WXC , which then communicates with my analogue amp and my stereo speakers, all controlled with Audirvana Remote. Well, not so much. And these problems have been going on since VoyagerDude , nothing convoluted in your explanation. I am pretty familiar with the terms.
If anything maybe it was me who convoluted things when I tried to explain what I wanted to do. While I can link to my library on the NAS with Audirvana it obviously bypasses MinimServer in the process since the two do not work together. Am I wrong about that? Which model do you own? If you can connect to it via USB and Audirvana sees it as an audio output then you can send music to it directly without using dlna.
Thank you for this anwer. The large High-Res music files are downloaded to the PC and then uploaded to the music streamer… Free software running on basic Android devices are doing better! Are you aware of a Windows-based program designed like the Hifi-Cast is? Merci beaucoup. Historically Audirvana was used with local storage, so there was no file transfer going on. I am a happy user of Audirvana.
It is just that I worry about my growing base of 24 bit flac files… Expecting that, I managed from the very begining to have the NAS and the music streamer on the same network segment.
That is why I tried to setup Audirvana this way. Strange that an IT guy cannot understand this simple difference. There are a number of stable and light-weight DLNA servers out there such as Minim which allows an easy library access.
This would avoid mounting the shared directory on macOS first before running Audirvana and access might be quicker. Fir that you need something called control point software.
